Men’s Health and Chinese Medicine

At Rescue Acupuncture, we believe that most males can benefit greatly from a course of acupuncture and Chinese Medicine towards improving their physical health, their mental health as well as more specifically the condition and health of their sperm. As males are an equal part with those initial stages of pregnancy, it becomes very important to ensure healthy happy spermatozoa.

Healthy Sperm with Acupuncture

We would all love to have the perfect sperm. The importance of healthy spermatozoa for fertility is one of those problems that is unlikely to come up until you have been trying to have children and have been unsuccessful. Up until this point it is the rare man who looks specifically into this matter. If you have already done some investigations and found out that there is an issue, the good news is, Acupuncture is very effective at resolving these issues.

Morphology and thus the overall reproductive potential improve better with Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine than with Western Medicine according to studies that have been published. Factors such as diet, sleep, smoking, alcohol and exercise impact quite directly on the sperm’s health. But what does healthy sperm look like outside of a microscope?

Good Looking Sperm

Robust and vigorous sperm will quickly turn to jelly or look like globules after ejaculation. Of course the colour of sperm can vary slightly from whitish (best colour) to grayish (gray colour can indicate problems with urogenital Ki) and even yellowish (yellow colour can indicate a problem with diet or digestive Ki) but all can be healthy specimens. Sperm will at some point liquefy, this can happen anywhere between almost immediately up to 40 mins. The healthiest sperm will last the longest before liquefying. Quantity of sperm is another often asked question, however this can vary depending on previous activity, but staying hydrated plays a key part in a healthy individuals lifestyle.

Common Issues

Some of the issues that men are facing in regards to fertility are

  • Low Sperm Count
  • Poor Sperm Morphology
  • Poor Sperm Motility
  • Premature Ejaculation
  • Poor Diet
  • Lack of exercise (sedentary jobs)
  • Alcohol and smoking

Men’s Fertility in Research, Chinese Medicine

As of 2015 the research has definitely been in favor of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture over Western Medicine. A systematic review study involving 12 studies and 2177 people, although in need of further research, showed a heavy bias towards Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine combined, and is referred to as being particularly efficacious. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26333228
