How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments vary according to the nature of a person’s predicament, as well as the duration of the issue. Generally speaking, the longer or more chronic the problem, the more treatments will be necessary to resolve the difficulty.

Treatments are often spread out on a weekly or fortnightly basis, but in some cases treatments may be required twice or three times a week in the first week or two. Intervals between treatments are progressively extended as the condition improves.

What can I expect to happen?
Treatments generally last for one hour and the whole body is treated in accordance with our holistic attitude. The entire body is assessed, along with emotional and spiritual connections. Patterns of imbalance are examined. Pulse and abdominal diagnosis also play a large part in weighing up the client’s health. The process of treatment is then explained to the client, along with their standing diagnosis. Therapy can then begin.

At Kotan Clinic only the finest Japanese-style needles are used. These are single-use only, sterilized stainless steel needles, which are considerably thinner than their Chinese counterparts (up to 4 times thinner). Thinner needles and techniques specially developed in Japan allow for negligible discomfort during treatment. The usual response is one of relaxation, which allows the healing process to progress uninhibited.

What is Moxabustion?
The Japanese technique of Moxabustion (Moxa) is a specialized treatment often used in our practice.

Moxa, made from the Mugwort leaf, is essentially a heat treatment. Like needling, it is used to stimulate the Ki in a healing manner. The warmth that is generated stimulates the Ki energy in the channels, loosens knots and releases tensions that inhibit healing.

As an herb it has many properties, including the ability to penetrate deep into the muscles, relaxing and healing them. When used other ways it can strengthen areas that are weakened by cold, exhaustion or under-activity.

There are various ways in which Moxa is applied in order to shift the Ki. All applications apply the sensation of heat onto the body, but some actually draw excess heat away from the body, such as in the case of fever or inflammation.

There are a number of ways that Moxa is used. This is thoroughly explained before treatment, ensuring no worry or uneasiness beforehand.

In clinical trials, Moxa has been shown to dramatically strengthen the immune system by affecting white and red blood cell counts.

Though initially from China, Japanese Moxa is of a far superior quality and is used with a higher degree of effectiveness and safety.
